Christmas

Title : 'My Mom is great'

I have moved away from the hustle and bustle of this time of year to reflect.
Times have changed , as we chatted around the Christmas table.
What happened to the car trips to see the lights in town?
What happened to the whole family getting together?
When last did you see kids riding around on Christmas day , peddling on sparkling new bicycles?
When was it about gifts and buying?

‘No one has greater love than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends,’
John 15:13.

Happy Birthday

Who is the Luckiest of them all?

I first saw the band "Fear Of Falling" way back when they were a youth worship band at my former church.
On their Facebook group they are termed as :

'Two sets of high school best friends joined forces to create the effervescent Fear of Falling. The band is characterised by an exceptionally energetic stage show, intricate riffing, complementary dual guitaring, a combination of melodic choruses with primal screams, punchy breakdowns, onslaught of solid big rock drumming, and a flair for hair...….best described by the typical cliché; Fear of Falling is set to be the next big thing."

I have to agree with them on that....I have shot them a couple of times and i really do enjoy their stage performance.
I will be posting their full photo-shoot soon , as they won the Lucky Fish battle of the bands.
Below some pictures from the festival.

16 Stitch live .....

This will be one of the last times i ever shoot them.....more will follow soon

In the Rain of The Moment

Something changed , the light bulb moment happened , fireworks were ignited within me.

The street looks deserted at 3am in the morning, for me opportunity after a great night of shooting in the ‘heat of the club’…fresh rain, mist haze , emotions at a high…..

Thanks to the one who sent me the new Kings of Leon tracks….you have showed me out the rut

We are all Under the Øath

If there has ever been a turning point in my life , its when the boys from Tampa Florida set their feet on SA’s shores to do the business of post hardcore music.

The UnderØath tour was the most thought provoking week of my life.Gigs in the Cape , Durban and three shows in JHB really put my photo abilities to the test.So after day 7 and 5 hours of sleep I handed the photos to the guys at their final gig…..at least I can say UnderØath were pleased and so was I.

My photos were published in the Citizen newspaper,Purity magazine and look out for the Chew magazine soon.

Thanks to Nancy from Authentic ideas

How life is great on tour

Lido Fest

Roxanne, you don't have to put on the red light
Those days are over
You don't have to sell your body to the night
Roxanne, you don't have to wear that dress tonight
Walk the streets for money
You don't care if it's wrong or if it's right
Roxanne, you don't have to put on the red light
Roxanne, you don't have to put on the red light
Put on the red light, put on the red light
Put on the red light, put on the red light

Time to fix? or is it fixing time?

wash backHere is my Dad, a huge role model in my life. Since I could remember , him and I have always been fixing things around the house.
We actually don’t just take them apart and hope they work afterwards. With a keen eye, ‘the right too for the right job’ we dig in and get it done.
Bonding in a weird way, but hey, spent over 300 hours on our last ‘project’ together. Not too many people can say they spent that amount of time with their father in their whole lifetime. I am one of the fortunate ones.
Even fixing a washing machine seems mundane at the best of times or, ‘hey let’s call the plumber’ for me……it’s bonding time.
I can’t wait for the tumble dryer to break again.

Battle 2008 (What a Lucky Fish)

27 30 14 69 62

I think in the Chinese calnder this is the year of the Battle...

So I have ended the Lucky Fish Battle 2008 documentry.Wow! Can I say that this was very interesting? As per usual some of the bands, well ….. Let me leave that alone 
But there were some diamonds in the rough.
Those of you who don’t know, bands battle it out for prizes and a slot on the new Lucky Fish festival. Kind of like giving an unknown band a voice in the music scene.
Was fun, interesting and on some nights very very cold. Made some new friends, messed mustard sauce on Unlisted and now we wait to see who the winner is…

Let the battles begin

7103Saw myself at a dark and dingy place called steamers (very cool vibe) over the weekend. Was quite fun, battle for INK was in full force and nice to see room for more up and coming bands rather than the larger power houses strutting their stuff. So these couple of pics are from that gig….Unlisted…man you have to see these chaps perform!Very entertaining,Fear of falling and Facing The Gallows made it in to the next rounds….

More Zen….less Phobia!!

Is that a butterfly?

ButterflyMan alive, where is SA going? Xenophobia?

Did a shoot with the ladies and one gent of Smothered Beauty, had a very cool time with them thrashing out ideas and just all in all, and having fun. Until we brought out the smoke machine……
I have been shooting the band over some months now and looking forward to what they produce on the cd that will be released soon. So the studio work didn’t seem static at all. And im sure we got more that we were all looking for…..
Looking at the final pics……black is better

It's Dangerous Business Walking Out Your Front Door

1I've been up at this all night long
I've been drowning in my sleep
I've prayed for your safe place
And it’s time for us to leave”…..
It's Dangerous Business Walking Out Your Front Door –UNDEROATH…..

What a day….It is dangerous business walking outside your front door….Had a bumper bashing fight with a BMW today….what can I say BMW 1- 0 Wayne Nel.
Just shows you how close my family is, my mom dad and brother helped out at home….so hold those dear to you close!
Well the photo today is the reason why I’m the proudest brother, super musically talented Alistair Nel fronted SouthWorld and made me step back and take notice for a chang. He also fronts Fear Of Falling now that’s another story all together…

So keep those people you love close….Because…

Protection...

Protection...Well welcome to the first photo of many to come. I’ll be posting more and more photos as shooting progresses. The idea of posting these pictures will explain the moment I have caught in time…..

Rowley
Well this photo was taken in 2007, nice crisp clean shot to start off with. It’s my uncle holding on to his tamed cheetah Rowley. This was just the best feeling I have ever experienced when it comes to any form of wildlife. Yes the Roley was a tame cheetah, but the animal is still wild. This beautiful cat bonded straight away with my uncle and I have never seen a bond quite so in my whole life, something to think about……
What bonds have we formed of late?
